Hine's Story
I came to The Salvation Army when I needed transitional housing. I had to leave most of my food and household items at my last accommodation, so I needed kai support straight away. I literally had nothing, and I was at risk of losing my job, so I felt very precarious financially too. I was over the moon to get the help to see me through to the next payday.
I was referred by MSD on a Wednesday, got an appointment on Thursday and was approved for housing and a kai parcel shortly afterwards. What a relief. You can’t go wrong with The Salvation Army. I received all that help in less than a week.
I have never received a food parcel from The Salvation Army before and it was wonderful that I could choose my own items. I got the kai I needed instead of having a box handed to me with items I didn’t need or couldn’t use when someone else could use them instead.
I’ll always be grateful for the help from The Salvation Army and would encourage anyone to give what they can to The Food Bank Project to help families and individuals struggling like I was. You can be sure the help will go where it is needed. It helped me reach a better place. I’m happy to say I managed to keep my job and am now self-sufficient with food in my cupboards.
